His writing and recipes champion diasporic food cultures of the world, trace the evolution of migratory cuisines and spotlight culinary creatives on a mission to decolonise food narratives. He was winner of the Jane Grigson Trust Award for his first cookbook ‘Mother Tongue – Flavours of a Second Generation’, which explores British-Indian identity through food, memoir and recipes; and which was named The Observer Food Monthly’s ‘Favourite New Cookbook of 2023’. He also curates the online platform MotherTongueTV.com which celebrates food stories of migration, race and identity; and has written about the culture aspects of food for Conde Nast Traveller, Delicious Magazine, The Independent, Suitcase Magazine, and Olive Magazine - in which he has a monthly food trends column called ‘The Hot List’. @gurd_loyal
